Man, 18, attacked in Benwell

Police are appealing for information after an assault in Benwell, Newcastle.

An 18-year-old man was walking in a rear alley in Strathmore Crescent when he was approached and assaulted by two men at 10.30pm on July 16.

They punched and kicked the man and he suffered serious injuries including a broken eye socket, broken nose and cuts to his head. He was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Descriptions of the men have been released.

  • Male 1 - White, around 5ft 7ins tall, of muscular build and in his late 20s. He had short fair hair which was short at the back and sides. He was wearing a light coloured t-shirt and light coloured denim jeans.
  • Male 2 - White, around 5ft 9ins tall, of chubby build and in his 30s. He had short dark hair with grey stubble and was wearing a navy blue t-shirt, with white writing on in the shape of an arc, and trousers. He had a tattoo down his right forearm.

Enquiries are ongoing into the attack and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101.


Boy, 15, arrested after six-hour police stand-off

A fifteen-year-old boy has been arrested after climbing onto the roof of a house in Newcastle.

The teenager was involved in a stand-off with police in Benwell for nearly six hours from 9am this morning, July 21st.

He willing came down from the roof in Axbridge Gardens just before 3pm and is now being questioned by officers on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

Murder investigation launched in Newcastle

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 23-year-old woman died in a house on Ladykirk Road in Benwell.

Officers were called to a disturbance at 10.50pm on April 2. They found a woman with serious injuries. Paramedics attended but the woman died at the scene.

A 25-year-old man is in police custody. A section of Ladykirk Road has been cordoned off while enquiries are carried out.

"We have extra officers in the area carrying out enquiries and a visible policing presence in the area to reassure local residents.

"Due to the emergency service activity in the area there were lots of people out in the street when we attended this evening and I'd urge anyone with any information into the incident to come forward and speak to officers as soon as possible.

"We believe that the victim and the man that has been arrested were known to each other and we have officers at the scene and surrounding area carrying out enquiries to establish what exactly happened. I'd urge anyone with any information to contact police with information"

Five arrested after assault in Newcastle

Five people have been arrested after a man was assaulted in Newcastle.

The man, aged 30, was taken to hospital after he was assaulted on Fairholm Road in Benwell in the early hours of this morning.

He was treated for a cut to his head at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary. He has been released from hospital.

Two women aged 28 and 29 have been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent, and three men aged 18, 31 and 29 have been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit GBH.
