Woman hit by bus in Newcastle

A woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a bus in Newcastle this morning.

It happened on Market Street in the city centre at around 9:20am.

She was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Further death in accident

A fourth person has died after a road accident last month that already killed three.

The accident happened on April 25 near to Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham when a Renault Scenic was hit by a lorry driving in the opposite direction.

Margaret Reed,74, was taken to James Cook hospital with serious injuries but today died.

Three people - Robert Reed, aged 75, Natalie Simpson, 18 and her 14-month-old daughter, Destiny - all died in the crash.

Driver 'hit tree' in A1 collision

Sergeant John Lumbard, from North Yorkshire Police said: "We were called just after six o'clock to a traffic accident on the A1. It's a serious accident. A car has left the road and gone into a tree.

"At the moment it's very early stages of the investigation. But we do believe the weather conditions have played a significant part in what's happened."
