GlaxoSmithKline has announced it's investing £20 million in its drug manufacturing plant in Barnard Castle. The company says it wants to create a "global centre" for the production of its dermatological products in the town. The site currently employs 1,000 people.
However, the town missed out on 500 new jobs at a new factory. Barnard Castle was considered for the firm's new bio-pharmaceutical facility, but lost out to Ulverston in Cumbria.
