Full Report: County Durham family of five laid to rest

The funeral has been held for a family from County Durham who died in a car crash earlier this month.

Five members of the Cockburn family were killed on a Lincolnshire road on their way to a dance competition.

The service was held at a church in Birtley, where the family were described as devoted to one another.

Hundreds of people turned out today to attend the funeral of a family of five from County Durham who died after a head-on collision on the A18.

Angela and David Cockburn from Chester-le-Street, and their daughters 21-year-old Carley Ann and 18-year-old Bethany, died after their car was involved in a crash with a lorry when they were travelling to a dance competition in Lincolnshire.

Their grand-daughter, 23-month-old Lacie Jade Stephenson, also died in the crash.

Family of five laid to rest

The funeral of five members from the same family who died when their car hit a lorry will take place later.

David and Angela Cockburn from Chester le Street died along with their two daughters Carley Ann, 21 and Bethany, 18. Beth's 23 month old daughter Lacie Jade Stephenson also died in the collision in Grimsby two weeks ago. The funeral will be held Birtley.

The Cockburn family from County Durham were on their way to a dance competition in Skegness when the crash happened. The road is known for being one of the most dangerous in the country.

Dance academy pays tribute to sisters killed in crash

The Washington dance academy where two sisters who died in a car crash near Grimsby last week trained has paid tribute to "amazing dancers with huge hearts."

Carley and Beth Cockburn from Chester-le-Street died after the car they were in collided with a lorry on the A18 close to Grimsby.

The family had been travelling to a dance competition in Skegness.

Trish n' Trina's Performance Academy in Washington released this statement:

"They were the nicest people you could ever meet.

"Angie and David were a loving husband and wife and doting parents who idolised their children and adored their grandchild.

"Carley and Beth followed their dreams and passion and danced with our school for many years taking part in competitions and performing in London and Paris.

"They were beautiful girls and amazing dancers with huge hearts and a passion to party. The angels will be rocking with the Cockburn family - heaven won't know what's hit it!"
