Search intensifies for missing 68-year-old woman with dementia

Police have intensified their search after failing to find any trace of a missing 68-year-old woman with dementia in the last week.

It is now seven days since Barbara Colling went missing and her family have joined police appeal for volunteers to take part in the search.

Ms Colling was last spotted on a moor road close to her home in Helmsley.

A woman has made an emotional appeal to find her mother who has dementia and who has been missing for more than forty eight hours.

Barbara Colling was spotted on a moor road close to her home in Helmsley.

Her daughter Lizzy is pleading for anyone who may have seen her mother to contact police. She spoke to our correspondent, Rachel Bullock.

Specialist tracking dog brought in to search for missing Helmsley woman

Police have brought in a tracking dog to assist the search for Barbara Colling who went missing from Helmsley on Monday. The 68-year-old has Alzheimer’s. The search and rescue dog is trained to identify a person's scent and then track it for as long as possible.

Despite extensive searches of the Helmsley to Broughton area carried out by specially trained police officers, search and rescue teams and an air support unit, they have not managed to locate Barbara.

Inspector Richard Mallinson, said: “I would like to thank all those who have already reported potential sightings of Barbara. I am particularly asking farmers and people who work in the local area to keep checking their outbuildings and sheds in case Barbara has taken shelter in them.”

68-year-old missing from Helmsley

Missing Barbara Colling

Police are appealing for help in finding a woman who has gone missing from Helmsley. 68-year-old Barbara Colling was last seen walking from Helmsley towards Stokesley on Monday morning.

She is described as white, 5ft 6in tall with a medium build and medium length blonde hair. When she was last seen Barbara was wearing a navy blue jacket, blue trousers, a black woollen hat with ear flaps and black boots and is thought to have been carrying a black rucksack.

Police are growing concerned increasingly concerned for her welfare, as Barbara has serious health issues and this behaviour is out of character. It is not thought that she has any money or debit cards with her.
