McElderry's life and career to be celebrated with award

X Factor winner, and South Shields star, Joe McElderry will pick up a Variety Silver Award in Newcastle tonight at a special dinner that is being held in his honour.

'A Tribute to Joe McElderry' will be a celebration of Joe's life and career so far, where he will be presented with the Variety Silver Heart award.

Money raised on the evening will go towards the children's charity 'Variety'.

Stars to sing in Sir Bobby's memory

Plans for fund-raising concert on what would have been Sir Bobby Robson's 80th birthday have been announced. The star line-up includes Joe McElderry, Alan Shearer, Mark Knopfler, Northern Sinfonia and comedian Paul Whitehouse.

The concert is on February 18th next year, and the proceeds will go to two charities, The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and The Alan Shearer Foundation. It will be hosted by Sir Bobby's friend, former ITV Sport's presenter Jim Rosenthal.
