North Tyneside Council is withdrawing plans to bring the Tynemouth outdoor swimming pool site back into use.
The local authority wanted the site to become a visitor attraction and events space but the plan drew a large number of negative responses from local people, many of whom wanted the pool itself reopened.
Tynemouth Metro Station has hosted a special Diamond Jubilee festival.
The free event was opened by North Tyneside Mayor Linda Arkley, and was an afternoon packed with family entertainment.
Visitors were also able to admire the newly renovated historic roof, which has taken a year to complete at a cost of around £3.6 million.
The station is officially re-opening in July.
It was a double celebration at Tynemouth Metro Station today.
The venue has had a £3.6 million refurbishment to its historic Grade II listed roof. The project has taken over a year to complete.
The station also hosted a party to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
North Tyneside Mayor, Linda Arkley was at the event.
