A former Labour Transport Secretary says the North East must push for quicker rail journeys to and from the capital.
Lord Adonis wants to see a standard journey time of two and a half hours between Newcastle and London. Some services currently take more than three hours.
The recommendation is part of the North East Independent Economic Review. It aims to create 60,000 private sector jobs across Tyneside, Wearside, County Durham and Northumberland.
