Karanka relishing LVG clash in League Cup tie

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka says 'it's a pleasure' to face Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal in tonight's Capital One Cup clash at Old Trafford.

Karanka has met Van Gaal before as a Real Madrid player when the Dutchman was in charge of Barcelona, but tonight will be the first time the Spaniard has gone head-to-head with Van Gaal as a manager.

Speaking ahead of the match, Karanka said he was looking forward to the match and described Van Gaal as 'one of the best managers in the world'.

Managers react to 'spitting incident' in Newcastle v Man United clash

Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse and Manchester United defender Jonny Evans could face an FA probe after an alleged 'spitting incident' during last night's Premier League clash at St James' Park.

Neither John Carver or Louis Van Gaal saw the incident during the game but both managers gave their reaction afterwards.

Manchester United won the game 1-0 with an 89th minute goal from Ashley Young.


Newcastle boss Carver excited by Van Gaal test

Newcastle United boss John Carver is excited at the prospect of going head-to-head with Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal in tomorrow night's Premier League clash.

The Dutchman has vast managerial experience with clubs including Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and the Netherlands national team.

Carver, who was placed in charge of Newcastle for the remainder of the season, is looking forward to facing Van Gaal in the St James' Park dugout.

Speaking ahead of the match, he said:

Poyet says Van Gaal needs time at Man United

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet says Louis Van Gaal needs time to properly settle in at Manchester United.

The Dutchman lost his first Premier League game as manager against Swansea City last weekend.

The Black Cats welcome Manchester United to the Stadium of Light this afternoon.
