Local newspaper offices to close
Two North East daily newspaper offices are to be closed to create a new editorial hub in Sunderland. Johnston Press which runs the newspapers says editorial and advertising staff from the Hartlepool Mail and the South Shields Gazette will now work from the Sunderland Echo offices.
Staff at the two papers were told their offices would close in the next two months.There are expected to be six editorial redundancies and nine advertising redundancies as a result of the move. The company has not ruled out compulsory job losses.
