ITV News correspondent wins Journalist of the Year

ITV News Tyne Tees and Border correspondent Kenny Toal has won Journalist of the Year at the RTS North East/Border Awards ceremony. This adds to his win earlier in the evening for Scoop of the Year.

Kenny won the Journalist of the Year award for a compilation of pieces on flooding in Morpeth, Darlington FC, and an investigation into Olympic security.

Security staff arrested 24 hours before Olympic match

Three people who were due to work as Olympics security staff at St James' Park in Newcastle have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences. The Home Office says they were employed by a private security firm.

The three were arrested on Wednesday, just 24 hours before the Mexico v South Korea match. Two people remain in police custody. One has been released without charge.
