Otter cub born at wetlands

Meet the latest furry addition to the WWT Washington Wetland Centre family - an Asian short-clawed otter cub.

The female cub has been nicknamed Little Squeak because of her high-pitched cries – and is an important part of conservation efforts to protect her species.

Ross Hutchinson went to find out more.

Wild otters at Washington

The Washington Wetland Centre near Sunderland is having a baby boom.

Now an overnight camera trap has caught (brief) footage of two young otter cubs swimming through a stream.

The centre has been keen to encourage wild otters to breed on site - and this shows they have been successful.

A six week otter pup found in a caravan park near Stockton is being rehomed this morning.

'Otty' was handed into a vet's surgery last week.

Since then he has gained weight and is now ready for a new life at a wildlife centre in Cheshire.
