A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a police officer from Sunderland who was killed during a riot in London during the 1980s.
PC Keith Blakelock died during the Broadwater Farm riot in Tottenham on 6 October 1985. The 40-year-old suffered multiple stab wounds when he was attacked whilst trying to protect fire fighters who were tackling a fire at a supermarket.
Nicholas Jacobs, 44, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court this morning. He has been remanded in police custody and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday.
