Kings of Leon will play at St James' Park next year.

Originally from Tennesee, the American rock stars will be in Newcastle on 31st May 2014.

It is the first in a series of similar events that Newcastle United are hoping to stage.

The last major gig at the stadium featured Rod Stewart in 2007.

George Michael plays Newcastle

He's a global superstar and for the first time ever he's been in the region to perform solo. Thousands of fans saw George Michael play on Tyneside. He was due to play the Metro Radio Arena last December but rescheduled because of pneumonia.

There were fears it would be cancelled altogether after George pulled out of some international dates. Fans weren't disappointed though, an arena full of screaming people were on their feet at the Symphonica show.
