Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will be inducted into the Show Racism the Red Card Hall of Fame later today.

He is one of four managers being honoured at the event which takes place in London this evening.

The Hall of Fame is the charity's way of thanking supporters, patrons and sponsors for the work they have done.

Police investigate monkey gesture at Sunderland match

Northumbria Police have launched an investigation after a monkey gesture appeared to have been made by a Sunderland supporter towards a black player at the Stadium of Light.

A fan in the North Stand is believed to have made the gesture at the match against West Bromwich Albion last weekend.

Police have confirmed that they are looking into the alleged abuse that took place after Belgium international Romelu Lukaku scored a third goal for West Bromwich Albion.

“SAFC operates a policy of zero tolerance towards racism and anti-social behaviour of any kind and naturally we will co-operate with the police in fully investigating any such incidents.”

– Sunderland Football Club

“This kind of gesture at football matches is a thing we never thought we’d see again.

If anyone is guilty of this they could be looking at a three-year ban. When people do these kind of things we have to have action taken against them, and if they are found guilty then we will be asking the club to ban them.”
