People don't know the facts about secondhand smoke, say campaigners

A campaign highlighting the facts about secondhand smoke will be launched later. Television and radio adverts will show smoking by a window or the backdoor is not enough toprotect children from secondhand smoke.

Over 80 per cent of secondhand smoke is invisible and it contains harmful cancer causing poisons. In the North East 99% of children wish their parents would stop smoking. 85% of children wish their parents would not smoke in front of them in a car.

No smoking day

It's No Smoking Day and smokers in the region are being urged to kick the habit. This year's theme is 'take the leap' in honour of the upcoming Olympic games. Organised by the British Heart Foundation, aims to reduce tobacco related death and illness by motivating smokers to quit
