Sultan Alam was convicted of handling stolen goods in 1996 as part of a malicious prosecution by Cleveland Police. He was cleared by the Court of Appeal in 2007.
The force admitted liability after it was sued by Mr Alam. He said after today's hearing at Leeds County Court that his legal battle was "never about the money".
