"Our songs have a dark edge... they still stand up today"
The Animals formed on Tyneside in 1963 and became one of the North East's finest exports. Nearly fifty years on, one of their tracks is used in the new James Bond film, Skyfall, and the band's original drummer John Steel has brought them to perform at the Sage Gateshead.

The rock band The Animals, who formed on Tyneside, are returning to the Sage Gateshead this evening as part of a tour with other bands from the 60s. Drummer John Steel, who is from Gateshead, is the only original member of the line-up.
