Man in court charged over threats to kill hundreds

A 24 year old man has appeared in court charged with making threats to kill hundreds of Americans. Reece Elliot from Shrewsbury Terrace in South Shields is charged with threats to kill towards the residents of Warren County, Tennessee and an offence under the Communications Act of 2003.

It follows anonymous posts on a Facebook memorial site set up in memory of a student at a school in Tennessee last week.

South Shields Magistrates Court heard the residents of Warren County were "extremely concerned" following the posts and 3000 children were kept off school.

Local schools were put in 'lockdown' with armed police attending all schools in the Warren County area. Elliott didn't enter a plea and has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in court on Wednesday 13th February.

Threatening to kill Americans - man charged

A South Tyneside man has been charged with threatening to kill after allegedly posting on Facebook he would kill 200 Americans.

Reece Elliott, 24, from South Shields, has also been charged with making malicious communications, Northumbria Police said.

According to reports, the post was made anonymously on an online memorial page, set up for a Tennessee student who died in October.

That led schools in Warren County, Tennessee, to tighten security, with limited access to premises.
