Police have recovered a body from the River Wear close to where officers have been searching for a missing university student.
Sope Peters, 20, was last seen at around 11:30pm on October 29 while on a night out in Durham. The body hasn't yet been formally identified.
Volunteers from Teessdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team found the body of Sydney Presgrave, 81, in the River Tees on Friday.
Police searching for a missing Durham University student have recovered a body from the River Wear in Durham city centre.
Officers said the body was found this afternoon between Prebends Bridge and Framwellgate Bridge. A formal identification is yet to take place but the family of missing student Sope Peters have been informed.
Sope, 20, went was last seen leaving his flat in Highgate at around 11:30pm on October 29.
A body recovered from the River Tees has been identified as Stockton man Sydney Pesgrave.
The 81-year-old was reported missing on December 5.
Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted at a Newcastle take away.
The 23-year-old was approached by three men and attacked at Magic Flame take away on Westmorland Road at around 3am on Saturday. The victim was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after suffering a fractured cheekbone and other minor injuries.
All three men are described as being aged between 23 and 23, around 6ft 2ins tall and of medium build.
Any witnesses are being asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101.

A woman has been arrested in connection with an assault on South Tyneside.
It happened after a man suffered a stab wound at an address on Ellison Street, in Hebburn at just after 12:25am on Saturday. Police attended the scene and found the man unconscious with a stab wound to his neck.
The man was taken to South Tyneside Hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
A 27-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and has been released on police bail.

"A young family were left traumatised after these offenders burst into their home wearing balaclavas and threatening them with a crowbar at around teatime on Friday evening.
"The stolen firearms could be dangerous should they fall into the wrong hands, so it is important that anyone who knows where they are or who as got them comes forward as soon as possible.
"Such crimes are fortunately rare in North Yorkshire so I would appeal to anyone with any information to come forward."
Police are investigating a burglary in which five shotguns and expensive jewellery were stolen in Harrogate.
The robbery occurred at a property in the High Birstwith area at around 5:15pm on Friday 6 December. The offenders, described as four Asian men, left the scene in the homeowner's white Porsche 911 which was found abandoned nearby.
Officers are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the surrounding area around the time of the incident to get in touch.
