Newcastle United striker Papiss Demba Cisse was mobbed by fans after visiting a barber shop in Gateshead.
The Magpies number nine is believed to earn in excess of £40,000 a week.
But rather than pay for an expensive hair style, the Senegalese forward opted for a £6 trim at The Barber Shop in Felling.
And as word of Cisse's whereabouts spread, around 50 fans had gathered outside to get a glimpse of the £10m January signing.
When asked about the commotion caused by Cisse, Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said: "That sounds like the North East.
"I have never had it myself - only one or two turn up when I get my hair cut.
"Papiss has grown into a bit of a cult figure here in terms of what he has done and the way he has conducted himself."
