The region's beaches have been given top ratings in a new survey.
The Marine Conservation Society's Good Beach Guide - published today - listed the North East region as the best performing in the country.
37 of the 43 beaches surveyed in North Yorkshire, Durham Tyne and Wear and Northumberland were given the highest 'Recomended' award. Two others were awarded the top Guide Line standard.
The most improved beach was at Saltburn. It failed last year but gained a 'Recomended' this time.
