Free Metro parking for Queen's visit

The company that manages the Tyne and Wear Metro will make car parking free of charge for the Queen's visit next week.

Her Majesty the Queen is currently touring the country as part of the celebrations for her Diamond Jubilee. The monarch will arrive in the North East on Wednesday 18 July as part of her Diamond Jubilee Tour and visit Sunderland, South and North Tyneside, Newcastle and Gateshead.

The network manager, Nexus, have announced they will make the major park-and-ride sites free of charge for the visit, along with most smaller car parks.

The following stations will be free of charge from 18 July - 31 August.

  • Callerton Parkway
  • Bank Foot
  • Regent Centre
  • Four Lane Ends
  • Northumberland Park
  • Stadium of Light

Lots of people will want to see Her Majesty The Queen on July 18 on her Diamond Jubilee Tour of the region.

There will be some road closures during the visit, so Metro is the easiest way to get to the key locations to see The Queen. We are making all of our park-and-ride sites free from the day of the visit, 18 July. The offer will run all the way to 31 August.
