An ex police officer who turned down an offer to work on the security during the Olympics, was still sent an official security pass giving him access to all areas.

Police promised they will be reimbursed

The head of the security firm G4S has promised Northumbria Police the force will be completely reimbursed for covering a shortfall in security staff.

Officers had to step in after only a handful of G4S staff turned up for work at at hotel being used by Olympic football teams playing at St James' Park.

Now some officers have had their leave cancelled and are preparing to pick up the pieces of the Olympic security fiasco.
