More than 80 drivers have been stopped and spot checked by police tackling dangerous vehicles in Northumberland.
Operation Gatsby was carried out by Morpeth Neighbourhood Policing Team on October 10. Officers were looking for defective and untaxed vehicles.
– Morpeth Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Simpson
"This latest operation shows the importance of continuing to crack down on dangerous vehicles in the area. Motorists who drive on our roads in defective vehicles and those using vehicles without insurance pose a serious threat to other road users.
"These latest results show it is necessary for us to continue this joint operation in future. Keeping our roads safe is a priority for us which means cracking down on rogue drivers."
Two drivers were summonsed, one for no insurance and the other for failing to wear a seatbelt.
Four vehicles had defects so serious that officers immediately issued four prohibition notices, while one car had a tyre so worn that he had to replace it and have it re-checked.
