A man who died from stab wounds in Washington has been named as Andrew Lucas.
The 20-year-old was found near his home on Warkworth Close at around 3:42am on Saturday morning. Neighbours say he was lying in a stairwell.
Police have launched a murder inquiry into his death. Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barret, from Northumbria Police, said:
"We are still asking for people with information about this offence to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, however we have nothing to suggest that there is any wider danger to the public."
Any witnesses or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Warkworth Close in the early hours of this morning are being asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101.
