The actor Kevin Whately opened a dementia care centre in Brunswick Village in Newcastle, saying the country needs more specialist places like it. The actor has campaigned for improvements for people with the illness, since his mother was diagnosed.
He said the government should invest in more centres offering "joined up thinking" for patients.
