Northumbria Police have launched an investigation after a complaint about threats made on the social networking site, Twitter, against a Sunderland footballer.

It is thought that the comments were aimed at James McClean who chose not to wear a special Remembrance Day shirt with an embroidered poppy at the game against Everton last weekend.
