Parties clash over rural broadband provision

The Bishop Auckland MP, Helen Goodman, who speaks for the Labour party on media issues has accused the government of abandoning plans to provide universal broadband access by the end of this year.

Ms Goodman said that more than five million adults had no access to broadband services with the situation even worse in rural areas.

But the Hexham Conservative MP Guy Opperman claimed that under Labour broadband access across Northumberland was 'woeful, disorganised and underfunded'.
