Appeal after Newcastle cars damaged by firearm

Northumbria Police are appealing for information after cars were damaged in Newcastle last night by what looks to have been a firearm.

Officers were called to Denton Road in Newcastle where a Ford Focus and a Ford Mondeo appeared to have been damaged by a firearm.

Witnesses reported seeing a white van in the area at around the time the damaged occurred.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious vehicles or people in the area around the time of the incident.

There are currently extra patrols taking place in the area to reassure residents.

"At this stage our enquiries indicate this was not a random incident and as such we do not believe there is a danger to the wider public.

Although no-one was threatened with a firearm at any point we take all reports where it's suggested a firearm is involved extremely seriously. The community can rest assured we're doing everything possible to establish exactly what happened.

At this stage it appears the people involved are known to each other and it was an isolated incident. Additional patrols are taking place and anyone with any concerns should speak with their local officers."
