Former Cleveland Police Authority chairman in court

The former chairman of the Cleveland Police Authority has appeared in court charged with perverting the course of justice.

David McLuckie, from Stokesley, pleaded not guilty to the offence at Newcastle Magistrates' Court this morning.

He is accused of persuading another man to accept responsibility for a traffic offence, that he is is alleged to have committed himself in Saltburn.

Mr McLuckie, who is 51, was granted conditional bail and will appear before Newcastle Crown Court on December 20.
