Community projects given lottery funding boost

A drama group in County Durham is one of seven projects across the North East to receive lottery funding.

The Drama in the Dale project, which will operate from a listed disused railway station building in Frosterley, Weardale, is receiving 50,000 from the Big Lottery Fund.

Other awards went to Teesdale YMCA in Cockfield, County Durham, which secured nearly £49,000 and Green Ovingham Local Food Ltd in Northumberland, which received £41,000.

A car club, which will be set up in Blackhall Mill in Gateshead, will also receive more than £47,000.

Meanwhile, home-based businesses in Stocksfield, in Northumberland, will benefit from more than £10,000 to provide high-speed broadband reception in the area.

Across the region more than £290,000 has been awarded and in England 35 projects shared more than £1.4 million overall.
