Northumbria Police have just confirmed a collision on the A69 between Greenhead and Haltwhistle.
A car has crashed onto the railway line and police say it may have received a glancing blow from a passing train.
The train stopped further down the line and does not appear to have suffered significant damage. No one on board appears to have been injured.
Police and the ambulance service are dealing with one casualty from the car.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted off the A69 at Greenhead onto B6318 (known as Military Road).
