Police investigating a crash on the A69 which ended with a car being struck by a train have released new details about their investigation.
The crash happened at around four o'clock on December 5th, between Greenhead and Haltwhistle when a black Range Rover left the road and crashed onto the railway line where it hit the side of a freight train.
Travelling in the Range Rover was a mother and her two sons - aged eleven and fifteen.
The 11-year-old boy suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to the RVI.
He remains in a critical condition with potentially life threatening injuries.
The mother and 15-year-old boy were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
