MP accuses energy companies of ' cynical manipulation' of planning laws

Durham has done its bit for renewable energy - that's the strong view of the Sedgefield MP, Phil Wilson.

The county already has seventeen operating wind farms, with six more having full planning permission and another thirteen in the planning stages.

E.On are hoping to install another 24 turbines in Mr Wilson's constituency.

The Isles site will be capable of producing more than 50 mega watts of power per day, and therefore it is deemed a site of strategic national importance with the final planning decision taken by ministers in London.

Mr Wilson wants the Planning Acts to be revised with the 50 mega watt ceiling raised.
