Police investigating the shooting of a man in the carpark of the Six Mile Bridge Inn in Seaton Burn at 4.12pm on Friday have made two arrests.
Northumbria Police say enquiries are continuing and officers have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests.
A statement by Northumbria Police said
"The shooting is not being treated as a random attack and at this stage it is being linked to organised criminality.
Police patrols have been increased in the area to reassure the local community."
