A police officer has died in a road accident while answering an emergency call. The officer was killed when his patrol vehicle collided with a tree in the village of West Tanfield, near Ripon, at 7pm on Saturday, North Yorkshire Police said.

Police name officer killed in North Yorkshire crash

North Yorkshire Police have confirmed the name of the officer who tragically died while on duty on Saturday 5th January 2013 as PC Andrew Bramma.

The 32-year-old was a member of the Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Team.

He died after his patrol van hit a tree in West Tanfield, near Ripon, while he was on the way to answer an emergency call. He leaves a wife and two young children.

A statement from North Yorkshire Police said "Andrew had recently transferred to North Yorkshire from Greater Manchester Police, where he had served since 2008, and was a well-liked and much-valued member of the force."
