Cathedral’s silver stolen in Ripon burglary

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information after a burglary at a medieval house near Ripon where silver on loan from Ripon Cathedral were stolen.

A silver cross and a pair of silver candlesticks were taken from Markenfield Hall in Ripon sometime overnight between January 6th and January 7th.

A silver gondola-shaped toast rack and a small quantity of cash were also taken during the burglary.

“This burglary occurred in a fairly remote location, so any sightings of suspicious people or vehicles could be vital to the investigation.

“The items stolen are extremely difficult to replace and are hold great value to the owners of the hall and of course to Ripon Cathedral.

“If you have any information that can help with our enquiries or have been offered the stolen items for sale, please contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”
