Man assaulted in Newcastle city centre

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in Newcastle in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were called to outside Akbar's at Waterloo Street in the city centre just after three o'clock this morning after receiving a report that a man had been assaulted.

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital suffering from fractures to his eye socket and jaw, where he continues to receive treatment for his injuries.

It is believed that he was assaulted by three men who pushed him to the floor and then assaulted him.

Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with information to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
