Police seek man seen with murder victim John Roberts

Police investigating the death of John Roberts in Gateshead want to speak to another man, believed to have been talking to him on the day before his body was found.

The man was reportedly seen talking to Mr Roberts in an alley behind Park Terrace, Winlaton, between 5:30 and 6pm on 15th December.

  • He was described as:19-20 years old
  • 5ft 10 - 11 inches
  • short, fair hair and cleanly shaven
  • wearing a waist-length, dark brown bomber jacket and jeans

Yesterday police appealed for witnesses after a sighting at 6:30pm on same day at Kandola store on Hazel Road, approximately 400m from where John lived.

Mr Roberts' body was found by police in his home on 16th December.

"We are keen to speak to this man as he may have vital information which could help with the investigation. He may have information which could lead us to John's killer. "We ask this man, or anyone who recognises the description, to come forward to police immediately. "These sightings and John's home are all within a close proximity so we hope this prompts people who may have been in this area at the time to come forward. We have had hundreds of calls from the public and I'd like to personally thank all those who have been in touch - all information is crucial to the investigation."
