Experts predict crash-proof cars within next decade

On the 30th anniversary of the mandatory seatbelt law, experts are predicting completely crash-proof cars by 2020.

30 years ago today, the use of seatbelts became mandatory for drivers and front seat passengers in the UK - it is estimated that in those 3 decades over 50,000 lives have been saved.

A system that uses a sensor to warn the driver of an impending frontal collision before performing an emergency stop, external airbags and collision avoidance technology are already being tested by Volvo, and they hope to start rolling out this technology in the next few years.

Many similar features already exist in cars today such as satellite navigation, air-bags, self parking car systems, and sensors.
