No public inquiry for controversial waste incinerator

Controversial plans to build a massive waste incinerator in North Yorkshire have moved a step closer to becoming a reality.

Campaigners have protested against the 1.5 billion pound plan to burn rubbish at Allerton Quarry near Knaresborough.

North Yorkshire County Council has already given planning permission for the development, subject to a consultation.

However, the government has decided not to demand a public inquiry into the proposals saying the decision should be made locally.
