Northumbria Police have released the following statement about the Holywell murder investigation.
The body of a woman was found at a house in Holywell, Blyth around lunchtime today, after officers were originally called to a nearby car crash in Shiremoor.
"We are at the earliest stages of an investigation into today's events.
We have yet to formally identify the woman in the house and it would not be appropriate to give any details of her until this is done.
Local residents can be reassured that we will have extra officers in the area not only as part of the investigation but also to address any concerns people may have.
We believe that the woman in the car and the woman found in the house were known to each other and we do not believe that there is any wider danger to the public."
