Appeal after Newcastle city centre attack

Police are appealing for a witness to an assault in Newcastle City Centre to come forward after a man was hospitalised with neck wounds believed to have been caused by broken glass.

Police were called to Saint Nicholas Square, near to Tup Tup Palace, in the early hours of January 27th following reports of a fight.

A 28-year-old man was taken to the RVI for treatment where he had to have surgery on serious injuries to his neck and shoulder.

He then spent a week in hospital and is now recovering at home.

CCTV footage from the area shows a man who potentially witnessed the assault and may have filmed part of it on his mobile phone.

Officers are appealing for this man to get in touch with police as soon as possible.

The man is:

  • Aged in his 20s
  • Slim build
  • Dark hair
  • Wearing a light coloured, possibly white, suit style jacket with a dark top underneath, blue jeans and black trainers with white laces
