Appeal after Newcastle hit and run

Police are appealing for witnesses after a hit and run in Newcastle.

A 41-year-old man was found with serious injuries near to Chillingham Road Metro Station in Heaton shortly after eleven o'clock on the evening of Wednesday February 6th.

He was then taken to the RVI and is currently in a stable condition after being treated for leg injuries.

It is believed that the collision happened in the area of Chillingham Road, near the roundabout with Shields Road between Heaton and Byker.

"This incident happened on the night of the England vs Brazil football match and it is likely there were a lot of people out that night in the area.

We're aware there were a number of potential witnesses that we have not yet spoken to who may have vital information to the incident. We'd urge them or anyone with any information to come forward.

In particular we would like to speak to the driver of a silver saloon car that stopped at the scene and may have spoken to the man."

– Sergeant Steve Minnikin of Northumbria Police Roads Policing Unit

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the collision and are urging anyone who was in the area on Wednesday night to contact them.

Any witnesses should contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191.
