Man assaulted in Sunderland

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 28-year-old man was assaulted in Sunderland.

The assault happened on Saturday, December 22nd when the man was walking along Burn Park Road away from the city centre.

He was then approached by two men who asked him for a cigarette.

When the 28-year-old refused, one of the men struck him on the head - he suffered a broken jaw as a result of the incident.

The assault was reported to police on January 11th.

Officers are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw what happened or has any information.
