Appeal after burglary in Gateshead

Police are appealing for information about a burglary took place where two men entered a house in Gateshead and demanded money from the occupants.

The burglary happened at the address at Overhill Terrace on Tuesday February 12th shortly before midnight.

One of the people in the house, a 49-year-old man, suffered a cut to his hand which police think may have been caused by a knife, but did not require hospital treatment.

The burglars then left empty-handed.

"An investigation is underway to identify the people responsible.

The occupants are understandably very shocked by this incident, but fortunately no one was seriously injured.

We are appealing to the public to contact us if they have any information about this incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around the time.

Neighbourhood officers are out and about in the area to reassure local residents."
