Pedestrian dies after North Tyneside car crash

A pedestrian has died in hospital after being hit by a car in North Tyneside.

The collision happened just before lunchtime on the A1058 at Beach Road in North Shields when a car crashed into a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was taken to the RVI in Newcastle but died later of their injuries.

The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have any information that will help their investigation, to get in contact with them.

The road is currently closed between the A192 and A193.
