Police have named a pedestrian killed in a car crash in North Shields as Roy Toogood MBE.
The 66-year-old was hit by a car on the A1058 Beach Road shortly before lunchtime on Monday February 18th.
He was taken to the RVI hospital for treatment but later died of his injuries.
Mr Toogood, of Cullercoats in North Tyneside, received his MBE for his work with Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.
The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
