Armed robbery at West Auckland shop

A large amount of money has been stolen in an armed robbery at a shop in West Auckland.

Three men, wearing boiler suits with their faces covered, entered the McColls shop armed with a knife and threatened staff.

The staff, two women - one in her 50s and the other in her 60s were forced to open the safe and the men left with a substantial amount of cash in the direction of the green, said Durham Police.

"Although no one was injured during the robbery the staff have been left extremely shaken by this incident.

"I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about this robbery to come forward so we can bring the offenders to justice."
